Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi along with members of the Pakistan delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met with Secretary General IMO Kitack Lim at the Organization’s headquarters in London on 08 December 2021.
Matters of mutual interest including maritime issues came under discussion.
Minister Ali Zaidi apprised the IMO head of the Government’s various initiatives in the maritime sector including efforts to promote clean and green shipping. Secretary General Lim outlined IMO’s programmes and priorities.
Alluding to the importance Pakistan attached to the field of shipping, the Minister for Maritime Affairs informed the Secretary General that Pakistan’s Gwadar deep sea Port was being developed as a trans-shipment hub, which will play an important role in advancing regional trade and economic integration.
The Minister extended an invitation to the Secretary General to visit Pakistan on mutually convenient dates, which the Secretary General accepted.
Minister Ali Zaidi is leading the Pakistan delegation at the IMO Assembly Session being held in London from 6 – 15 December 2021.
